Twitter for Customer Interaction

The micro-blogging site Twitter has recently drawn significant attention as a new form of customer interaction that helps companies receive feedback about their products and services. Monitoring micro-blogging activities provides instant feedback on product and service performance. Responding quickly and directly to the customer helps manufacturers and resellers build strong customer relationships. The NY Times has dedicated an article to this topic.

Besides Twitter, there is a rich set of micro-blogging services. Notably, Tumblr offers a polished micro-blogging service outperforming Twitter on the quality of many of its features. For instance, Tumblr allows the users to re-publish RSS feeds enabling bloggers to easily attach their traditional blog to their micro-blogging feed.

With the rise of a variety of micro-blogging services, bloggers in particular are forced to maintain accounts with several providers. To simplify the publishing process, Ping.fm comes to the rescue with a service that allows posts to be published to several blogging services without the need to visit each individual services page. As simple as sending a text message, Ping.fm supports mobile phones and their own online portal for publishing micro-blogging articles.

Dosensio offers status updates on its micro-blogs on Twitter and Tumblr among others.

Update 4/16: Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt positions Twitter as a channel for marketing in a conversion with analysts.
